1 cupSteel-cut oats
4 tbsUnsalted butter
4 cupsWater
3 cupsOld-fashioned rolled oats
3/4 cupBrown sugar; light or dark
1 1/2 cupsApple; diced (one large)
1/2 cupDried apricots; diced
1/4 cupCrystallized ginger; diced
1 teaspoonSalt
2 teaspoonsCinnamon
1/4 teaspoonNutmeg
2 largeEGGS
1/2 cupmilk
1 teaspoonVanilla


1Preheat oven to 350.
2 Butter 9x13 baking dish.
3 Place steel-cut oats and butter in a large bowl.
4 Bring water to a boil and pour over oats.
5 Cover for 20 minutes.
6 Add remaining ingredients to the oat-and-butter mixture. Stir until well blended.
7 Transfer to the 9x13 baking dish.
8 Bake 35 - 40 minutes, until the center is set.
9 Remove and serve warm or cold.
