A combination of a number of recipes for cabbage rolls and cabbage roll casserole put together to suit my familys tastes

Cabbage Roll Casserole

1Cabbage; shredded
1 poundGround beef
1 poundGround pork
2 cupsCooked rice
1 mediumOnion; chopped
1 14 ounceCan tomato soup
3 10 ounceCan tomato juice
1 28 ounceCan diced tomatoes
2 teaspoonsGarlic powder
1 tablespoonSalt
Sauerkraut; To taste


1Grease an 11 x 13 casserole dish.
2 Steam shredded cabbage until soft and tender
3 Line dish with 1/2 of cooked shredded cabbage
4 Fry ground beef and ground pork until cooked.
5 Drain and set aside.
6 Fry onion in same pan as you had fried beef and pork until onion is soft and tender
7 Add beef, pork, and 2 cups of cooked rice to onion in pan.
8 Add salt, garlic powder, can of tomato soup, and 2 cans of tomato juice to pan.
9 Heat until thickened.
10 Put beef/pork mixture on top of shredded cabbage already in dish.
11 Add the other 1/2 of the cooked shredded cabbage on top of the beef/pork mixture
12 Top with drained can of diced tomatoes
13 Top tomatoes with a layer of sauerkraut to taste.
14 Pour 1 can of tomato juice over all
15 Cover and bake at 350 degrees F for a least 1 hour.
16 Enjoy.
17 Freezes great in serving sizes once cooled.
18 I use a baking tray under the casserole dish while baking to prevent spills in the oven as this dish tends to overrun. Perhaps use a larger dish if you have one.
