1 galMilk
4 teaspoonVanilla extract
1 qtWhipping cream -- heavy
6 tablespoonPowdered sugar
1/2 teaspoonVanilla extract
1/2 cupRum

Method

1Mix eggs, sugar and salt in heavy 2-quart saucepan. Gradually stir in milk.
2 Cook over medium heat 10 to 15 minutes, stirring constantly, until mixture
3 just coats a metal spoon; remove from heat. Stir in vanilla. Place saucepan
4 in cold water until custard is cool. Add rum. (If custard curdles, beat
5 vigorously with hand beater until smooth.) Cover and refrigerate at least 2
6 hours but no longer than 24 hours.
