Overnight Crockpot SteelCut Oatmeal

Oven temp:
Prep Time:
Cooking Time:

1 cupSteel Cut oats
4 cupswater

1Place oven safe bowl (Corning) INSIDE crock pot, using wadded up aluminum foil in the bottom to "lift" up the oven safe bowl. Be sure that the bowl will hold four cups of water and that the crock pot lid will fit on with the bowel inside.
2 Measure out one cup of oats. Pour that into the inner bowl. Add the four cups of water. Stir. Add a dash of salt, if you like (it’s not at all necessary).
3 Fill the crock with water to a little more than halfway. Set the inner bowl in the crock and see how high the water rises with the displacement. Add water in the crock if necessary–I usually try to match it so that the water reaches about the same height on the outside of the oats bowl as the cooking water inside, but I don’t think it matters that much.
4 Place the lid on your crockpot.
5 Set on low.
6 Go to bed.
7 Alternative ingredients:
8 1 cup steele cut oats
9 4 cups water
10 1/2 cup skim milk
11 1 chopped apple
12 1/4 cup brown sugar
13 1 tbsp butter
14 1/2 tsp vanilla
15 1 tbsp cinnamon
